Anniversary of the death of the Hung Kings

Vietnamese people have acknowledged a common ancestor: Lạc Long Quân, Âu Cơ and Hùng Vương; they are not the ancestors of a line of descent but are the ancestors of a nation, a country. Their death anniversary, called “Giỗ Tổ Hùng Vương”, is held on the 10th day of the third lunar month in Hùng temple in Phú Thọ province.

The festival annually takes place at Hung Kings Temple in the Zoo and Botanical Garden to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the country’s founders. A great number of people come to pay tribute in a solemn, yet warm, festival atmosphere.

At the ceremony, reoresentatives of the municipal administration deliver speeches on the sacred meanin of the special occasion, while representatives of young Vietnamese people express gratitude to the Hung Kings for their determination to defend the country. Afterwards, guests offer their prayers and there are performances by local bands.
